Our meetup for podcasters returns to Media City in Salford this February!
The Podcast Club is a get together is for people who are making podcasts, or for those of you who are thinking about becoming a podcaster.
There’s no strict schedule, simply show up. You can come to edit your latest podcast and get feedback from your fellow podcasters; find a quiet place to record some audio; bring your team and plan your podcast, or simply come along to hang out with other people who are as bananas about podcasting as you.
We like to say that it’s like a youth club, but for podcasters – with beer instead of Space Raiders!
Podcasters of ALL levels. So for example, professional podcast producers who make podcasts for a living, hobby podcasters, podcasters that work for the BBC! We’ve students, those that are umming and ahing about podcasting and freelance audio editors – aka all sorts!
New for 2020!
In 2019, we noticed that there were loads of people coming to Podcast Club who just wanted advice on how to get started. So, we’ve introduced a new feature for 2020 – a newbie advice station (better name needed). For 45 minutes, one of our pro podcaster buddies will answer your ‘how to start a podcast’ questions. This month is Podcast Club veteran and producer, the ace Charles Commins from Vibrant Sounds Media.
We also have more goodies planned for you in 2020, including talks, giveaways and offers, including for Pods Up North, our mint AF partner event.
Sign up to the February 11th Podcast Club here.
Our track record (mind the pun)
Last year, our first full year of MIC’s Podcast Club, we delivered 10 meetup events and our community grew to over 250 people! It’s had a few names changes over those 12 months, but we’ve (think) we’ve settled on MIC’s Podcast Club.
Our community have launched podcasts off coming to Podcast Club, made new connections and collaborations and some have even got paid work!
Why we’re doing it.
By its very nature, a lot of the podcasting process is done online. Apart from the guests we have or our co-hosts, we don’t speak to actual podcasting human beings in person, very often. Editing can be a very solitary existence too! How many of you have been so lost in an edit that you look up and realise that you’ve been sat in darkness for hours? For advice and support podcasters turn to online groups, forums or articles, which can get busy, confusing and overwhelming.
Our founder Vic Elizabeth Turnbull is fiercely passionate about the power of community, so saw a gap for a physical space for podcasters to come together and learn from one another – so MIC’s Podcast Club was born. It’s first event was in a room above a boozer in November 2018.
MIC’s Podcast Club was a real inspiration for me and gave me the confidence to pursue my own podcast. Seeing others so passionate and enthusiastic about their subjects, made me want to raise my game. It also reminded me of how accessible and friendly the Podcast community can be.”Paul Fores – ‘Remember The First Time?‘ podcast
Thanks to our supporters
MIC’s Podcast Club is self-funded by founder Vic Turnbull. This means sourcing venues, supporters, marketing and paying for this page right here. So, if you’ve benefited from a MIC event or simply like the cut of her jib, so consider buying her a brew – here
