About

Manchester City Council and The Pankhurst’s Trust‘s annual campaign Strong Manchester Women highlights 14 normal women who are doing extraordinary things. It’s staged each year around International Women’s Day in March.

Mission

To amplify the stories and causes of the 2019 Strong Manchester Women at a local and national level. In addition to creating a legacy for the project too.

Goals

  • To promote the women in a non-prescribed, corporate or ‘council’ way
  • To show how extraordinary they are so they can inspire other women
  • To communicate authentically and relatable and real
  • Bring a new, diverse audience to these stories and causes
  • To do this in a creative, fresh, and engaging way
“The Strong Manchester Women podcast has amplified the voices of Manchester women that you wouldn't normally hear about. It's something to be proud of. I remember when we first met - I didn’t think it would snowball into this! The podcast helped the audience connect directly with the women themselves, way beyond what our campaign did. So thank-you.

I can't stress it enough, MIC media absolutely nailed it. You're really good at what you do!”

Challenges

  • Local authority comms can often be traditional
  • These women’s stories are often unheard as they’re not in the spotlight
  • No in-house podcast production skills

Solutions

  • A 14-part podcast series focusing solely on the Strong Manchester Women
  • Each episode’s a 1:1 conversation with a Strong Manchester Women
  • MIC conducts all of the interviews in-person, either at their place of work or in a studio
  • Included were cover art design, social marketing assets (audiograms), promotional copy, transcripts, and blog posts
"Thank-you for the podcasts. I am so proud of them. I’ve sent mine to a friend who lectures at Salford University about Learning/Disabled/Mental Health. I believe the interview would be excellent for training purposes."

She is wearing dark clothes. She has short white hair. The image has a green hue to it. to the left of her knees are the words 'strong manchester women' in grey lettering and a thick font in capital letters. In the same style font, next to her right ear are the words 'Bernie Wood'.

“MIC media did all the hard work. You're the one that sat down and interviewed the women. You're the one that created the rapport with them and then got them to tell us these fantastic stories that were utterly fascinating. You have the skill to do that. Not everybody has that skill.”
