The Brief
The Global Protection Cluster’s Advocacy Working Group is a global network of NGOs, international organisations, and UN agencies engaged in protection work in humanitarian crises. Co-led by Oxfam and Save the Children, the group includes advocates working everywhere from the UN corridors in New York to the frontlines of conflict zones.
The group partnered with MIC to create a podcast that would:
- Share the real-life experiences of protection advocates
- Offer practical insight into advocacy in conflict and crisis
- Connect and inspire others working across this vital sector
The podcast needed to be authentic, accessible, and shaped by those doing the work. That meant working with group members across multiple countries – some brand new to podcasting.

What We Delivered
MIC provided our Train, Launch, Learn package, adapted for the international, multilingual team. We:
- Delivered remote podcast training
- Supported ideation, scripting and structure
- Mentored participants to become confident interviewers and hosts
- Recorded with contributors across Ukraine, Yemen, Mongolia, the UK and Geneva
- Produced the podcast series
The result? A compelling series featuring advocates on the ground, sharing their personal journeys, professional insights and lessons learned.
The Impact (in progress)
The Advocating for Protection podcast has:
- Brought new voices and perspectives into global protection conversations
- Helped connect advocates across regions and organisations
- Delivered a valuable new resource for training, learning and connection
“There are thousands of people across the world advocating for protection. Rarely do we hear their stories. This podcast gives them a voice—and helps others learn from their work.
We started knowing nothing about creating podcasts, but now we’re confident that we can continue producing more useful, fascinating and authentic episodes. It’s been a great experience working with MIC.” — Rachel Hastie, Protection Team Lead, Oxfam
This project also highlights MIC’s ability to:
- Deliver high-quality podcast training remotely across time zones
- Support participants with no previous podcasting experience
- Produce compelling, meaningful audio in complex international contexts
