The Brief
Cheshire West and Chester Council are delivering the Poverty Truth Commission locally, working closely with their ‘Inspirers’ – a group of people with lived experience of poverty who wanted to share their stories and inspire others. MIC partnered with them to design and deliver a three-month, in-person podcasting course to turn that ambition into reality.
The result: a powerful, hope-filled podcast series now being launched by participants to share their stories and offer support to others experiencing hardship.

What We Delivered
The training was delivered in person and covered everything from:
- Interview techniques
- Editing and production
- How to distribute
Together, we:
- Developed the podcast concept collaboratively
- Delivered hands-on training in recording and interviewing
- Built editing and scripting skills
- Coached participants through every stage of production
Most importantly, we created a safe, encouraging space where the Inspirers could grow in confidence, take ownership of their stories, and turn their idea into reality.
The Impact (in progress)
“I loved that MIC broke down the basics without being too technical, but without being patronising.”
— Participant, Poverty Truth Commission
“The training was so personable. It didn’t feel like meeting with a trainer – it felt like being taught by a friend.”
— Participant, Poverty Truth Commission
