The Brief
SENDIASS Manchester is a statutory support service helping families of children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND).
With a small team and lots of demand, SENDIASS needed a way to deliver consistent, reliable advice.
Their goal? To answer the most frequently asked questions from families in a format that was accessible, digestible, and on-demand.
So, they partnered with MIC to bring a podcast to life.

What We Delivered
We co-created SEND Talk, a warm and practical podcast answering the questions SENDIASS hears most often – like “Can the school send my child home?” or “Is my child eligible for home-to-school transport?”
MIC provided full production support, including:
- Helping the team refine the podcast concept
- Coaching presenters
- Recording and editing all episodes
- Mentoring the team to become confident, engaging hosts
- Podcast distribution
Voices in the podcast include SENDIASS staff and parents sharing their lived experience. The cover artwork was also designed by a young person with SEND.
Following the success of Series 1, we returned and continue to produce episodes – deepening the impact and continuing to build the team’s confidence and skills.
The Impact
SEND Talk has:
- Saved staff hours by reducing repeated enquiries
- Provided accessible, on-demand advice for busy families
- Supported people whose first language isn’t English or who face challenges with written information
- Helped families listen, reflect and revisit at their own pace
“Working with MIC has been superb. They’ve given us the confidence to do this as non-podcasters, and been patient and flexible during difficult moments. They’ve helped us think more clearly about how we give information to families.
The saving of staff time has been phenomenal. We’re getting information to more people, without having to pick up the phone. Parents are listening on their terms and sharing episodes with others. That’s real impact.”
