MIC media founder Vic Elizabeth Turnbull is speaking at the Community Media Festival 2026, taking place at The Lantern, Bauer Media’s London HQ, on Saturday 3 October.
The festival brings together people working and volunteering across community radio, podcasting and community media for a day of talks, practical sessions, networking and ideas.
Vic will be talking about something very close to our hearts at MIC, making purposeful podcasts.
Why Community Media Matters
We reckon something special happens when you give someone a microphone.
Community radio and podcasting help knock down the barriers to who gets to make media and whose voices get heard. And along the way, people aren’t just learning production and broadcasting skills, they can build oodles of confidence too.
We’ve seen that happen through our work at MIC. That’s why the Community Media Association‘s mission to make media more accessible is very close to our hearts.
Vic says:
Community media is really important to me. I hosted a live weekly radio show for four and a half years, and it gave me the opportunity to hone my audio production skills, learn loads and build my confidence.
I’m really looking forward to sharing a bit of that story at the festival, as well as what we get up to here at MIC. I’ll be talking about some of the things we’ve learned from helping charities, community organisations and grassroots groups make podcasts, and some of the different ways this kind of work can be funded.
Hopefully people will go away with a few ideas they can try in their own stations and organisations too!
What Vic Will Be Talking About
Vic’s session of course be looking at podcasting, drawing on MIC’s experience of producing more than 60 podcast projects and training nearly 3,000 people since 2019.
She’ll explore how community radio stations and organisations can start making their own podcasts and how to make great audio when time, budgets or technical experience are limited.
What Else Is Happening At Community Media Festival 2026?
There’s loads happening throughout the day too.
Podcast and radio expert James Cridland will be exploring AI for radio, while Lauren Underwood from Radio Essex, Jordan Blyth from Kerrang! Radio and Johnny Jenkins, Senior Producer on Nick Ferrari at Breakfast on LBC, will discuss the future of audio for under-30s.
Jo Russell from Magic Radio will be sharing practical lessons from her radio career, alongside sessions on funding, marketing your media project and getting into audio later in life.
The festival will also host the Community Champions Awards, celebrating work happening across community media.
Basically, if you work or volunteer in community radio, podcasting or community media, there should be plenty to get your teeth into.
