MIC media has been shortlisted for Creative Business of the Year at the Pride of Tameside Business Awards 2026.
And, this is the third year running we’ve been nominated in the category!
We’ll find out whether this is finally our year when Tameside’s business community gets together at Dukinfield Town Hall on Friday 9 October.
Three Years Running!
We were proper chuffed when MIC was first nominated for Creative Business of the Year back in 2024.
Then we were nominated again in 2025.
And now they’ve only gone and done it again.
Being recognised three years on the trot feels particularly special because Tameside is where MIC was born.
We started in Hyde in 2019 and, seven years later, Tameside is still the base for our national operations.
From here, we work with organisations across the UK, helping them use podcasting to share knowledge, tell important stories and get more voices heard.
From Hyde To… Well, All Over The Place
When MIC started, we weren’t thinking about awards (much!). We just knew there were brilliant organisations with important stories and expertise that weren’t always being heard.
So we gave them a mic. Seven years later, we’ve produced more than 60 podcast projects and trained around 3,000 people to make podcasts.
We’ve worked with organisations including Oxfam, Amnesty International, Co-op, ActionAid, NHS organisations, councils and leading UK universities.
We’ve recorded voices in community centres and conference halls, helped researchers turn their work into accessible content, trained complete beginners to pick up a microphone for the first time and supported podcasts made right here in Tameside to reach listeners around the world.
Founder Vic Elizabeth Turnbull has also taken a bit of Tameside with her to stages including The Podcast Show in London and the International Women’s Podcast Festival, as well as judging some of the UK’s biggest podcast and media awards.
Not bad for an independent podcast company from Hyde.
Made In Tameside. Heard All Over The Place.
Despite working with organisations across the country, MIC’s roots are still firmly in Tameside.
We’ve trained local teachers to set up school podcast clubs, worked with Tameside’s young people and community groups, supported creative projects made in the borough and shared our podcasting know-how with local businesses.
In fact, later this month we’re running a free podcast strategy workshop for Tameside businesses with Tameside Means Business.
And that’s why being recognised by our own borough feels particularly lovely.

I’m dead proud of what we’ve built here and of proving that you don’t need to be a massive London agency to do nationally significant creative work.
Obviously, after three nominations, we’d quite like to bring the thing home this time! Third time lucky?
