Podcast-making for kids with MIC!
We hooked up again with our pals at PIE to deliver a course on podcasting making for kids from Stockport. At the end, the young podcasting superstars team produced two podcast episodes all about their hometown!
MIC was delighted when the social enterprise, Pursuing Individual Excellence (PIE) asked us to train a group of young people.
PIE is all about equality in education and getting people ‘future-ready’, especially the most vulnerable in our society. Their vision aligns closely with what we’re about, we jumped at the chance to deliver podcast making for kids!
The Course
Along with PIE, we designed a 6-week podcasting course. We delivered a 2-hour, in-person(!!) session and our first physical podcasting workshops in over a year – all socially distanced and masked up of course! We held the sessions at the awesome Start Point centre in Stockport. The project formed part of the ‘Pieces of the PIE’ programme, which includes courses for the young participants around digital skills, communications, and cultural capital.
The podcasting group included six superstar young people aged between 13 and 17. They learned all about what a podcast is, project management, recording quality audio on your phone, scripting, and interviewing techniques.

And the result?
In just 6 weeks, the team went from zero podcasting knowledge to producing TWO episodes of their brand-new podcast ‘This Is Our Stockport’. They conducted all of the interviews you hear on the podcast and even designed the podcast artwork!
We love showing the next generation how to make a podcast and it’s not just ben about microphones and editing – podcast making for kids teaches valuable transferable ‘life’ skills. This includes communications and time management plus we’ve seen increased confidence and self-belief too.
We can’t wait for more collaboration with our pals at PIE!
